Internet portal SOHU.com announces further progress in providing services to
mobile Internet users. After introducing wireless content in Beijing in April of
this year, SOHU.com has been continuously working with mobile telephone
operators in nine provinces. SOHU.com was the first mobile Internet content
provider in Guangdong, the province with highest number of mobile phone
subscribers in China, and its content has now been linked up to two
communications networks in Guangdong.
WAP cellular phone users can access constantly updated news services,
real-time stock quotes, sports news, travel and transportation data, weather
forecasts, entertainment and shopping information on the SOHU.com wireless web
site (wap.sohu.com). In addition to these content categories, the web site
offers free e-mail services.
SOHU.com is the forerunner in bringing mobile Internet to the Chinese market
and has a one-year non-exclusive WAP co-development with an affiliate of Nokia
Corporation, the market leader in mobile phones and telecommunications equipment
in China. The two companies have joined forces with the two mobile phone
operators, China Mobile Communications Corporation and China Unicom, to offer
mobile Internet services through their regional subsidiaries to end-users in the
fastest growing mobile phone market in the world.
In mid-April of this year, SOHU.com signed the first cooperation agreement
with Beijing Mobile Communications Corporation. As a result, WAP mobile phone
users in the Beijing area were able to access information and services offered
by SOHU.com. Since then, SOHU.com has started cooperation with the regional
mobile phone operators in provinces with a relatively developed telecom
industry, such as Guangdong and Fujian, as well as provinces that experience
fast growth in telecommunications, such as Sichuan and Jilin.
