Beijing, August 10, 2000 - SOHU.com, the leading Internet portal in China, today announced that Derek Palaschuk has joined the company as Vice President, Controller. Palaschuk (36) brings over 15 years of financial experience to SOHU.com, including five years in Hong Kong and six years in China dealing with financial reporting and control systems, public and private companies, venture capital and banking.

Prior to SOHU.com, Palaschuk, a Canadian citizen, was the chief financial officer of CR China Holdings Limited, a private industrial group, and China Automotive Components Corporation, the Beijing-based management company for ASIMCO, a US$300 million automotive investment fund. Palaschuk has worked as an audit manager at Price Waterhouse Hong Kong and Price Waterhouse Beijing. In addition to being a Canadian Chartered Accountant, which is equal to a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) degree in the United States, he has a commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan and a law degree from the University of British Columbia.

Gary Zhao, formerly vice president finance, left the company earlier this month to pursue other business interests in China. "We appreciate Gary's role in helping SOHU.com to prepare for and execute our IPO and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors," continued Gurnee.

Palaschuk's new function combines the vice president of finance with the position of controller to create a new officer, the vice president, controller. Mr.Yang Ming, former controller, will become the director, treasury and tax, reporting to Palaschuk.
