BEIJING, CHINA, December 13, 2001 - SOHU.COM (NASDAQ: SOHU),
China's leading online media, communications and commerce company, has helped
over 1,000 enterprises in China to increase their customer base and brand
exposure with paid search engine and directory database listing services. In
July, SOHU was the first web site in China to offer the business community
different forms of paid placement and paid registration options in addition to
SOHU's free listings. The new product lines include:
· Paid Listings - Clients are given top ranking positions in specific keyword
searches in SOHU's search engine and directory classifications, and they are
given a user name and password so they can securely update company information
in the directory and monitor the click number their listing receives daily.
· Paid Registration - Clients are guaranteed a listing on SOHU's search and
directory databases, but are not guaranteed a preferred ranking. · Free
Listings - For government, education, and community organizations.
SOHU Search Engine consistently ranks Number One in international and
domestic surveys. In each of the five AC Nielsen.consult China Internet User
Studies to date, SOHU has outstripped all other Chinese web sites in user
preference for its search capabilities. In its most recent survey
(August-October 2001), 50% of respondents list SOHU as their search engine of
choice, with the second ranked website Sina.com at a distant 15% of
respondents.
In March of this year, SOHU was voted Best Search Engine in a survey
conducted by CNAZ (Chinese Network A to Z), a joint Hong Kong-Chinese
organization that measures Chinese websites worldwide.
SOHU is a key source of business information for China's 30 million Internet
users. A company that is listed in SOHU Search and Directory is assured broad
reach among China's urban middle class consumers, who make up the majority of
Internet users.
Every day more than 800,000 unique visitors use SOHU's comprehensive search
engine and directory databases, making the 'Search Fox' the most visited search
platform in China. In fact, search engine usage is the second most popular
activity on the web after e-mail. This means that enterprises now have the power
to cost-effectively reach out to consumers that are already predisposed to a
company's marketing message.
"SOHU is a market maker, bringing businesses and consumers together by
bridging the information gap between them. The beauty of Internet is that it is
not the exclusive domain of famous brand names, it opens up a world of
affordable marketing aids for a much wider range of companies. SOHU's online
search database stands for proven effectiveness and widest possible exposure",
said Charles Zhang, CEO and founder of SOHU.com.
By the end of November, over 1,000 enterprises had signed up for company
listings at SOHU.com. These clients represent a wide variety of service
industries, such as educational services, immigration services, translation,
Internet and computer services.
