NBA to Expand Features of NBA.Com/China Through New Deals With Nusports and SOHU

-NBA.com/China to Feature Record 87 Webcasts of NBA Games,
Hundreds of Hours of On-Demand Broadband Video, an Exclusive NBA Fantasy Game and More

BEIJING, September 2, 2006 – The National Basketball Association is enhancing the broadband features and content of its Chinese web destination, NBA.com/China, through new expanded partnerships with premier Internet media companies NuSports and Sohu, it was announced today at a press conference in Beijing with Houston Rockets All-Star center Yao Ming.

The new multi-year deals, which further position NBA.com/China as the leading sports destination in China, will provide fans in the country with access to a record 87 webcasts of NBA games in Chinese, including live video webcasts of regular season and playoff contents, and complete game replays of select NBA games. Additionally, the comprehensive site entirely in Chinese will feature a series of NBA classic games, hundreds of hours of on-demand broadband video and highlights, an exclusive NBA fantasy game, live stats, blogs, extensive photo galleries, player trackers, interactive forums, chat rooms and more, all throughout the NBA season.

“Renewing our partnership with NuSports and Sohu, two experts in China’s sports Internet landscape, will impart us with more opportunities to connect with our expanding fan base,” said Heidi Ueberroth, President, Global Marketing Partnerships and International Business Operations of NBA Entertainment. “As broadband usage in China continues to grow, NBA.com/China will provide fans with access to more game action and unique broadband features than ever before.”

NuSports
As the new official Internet partner of the NBA, NuSports will work closely with the NBA to develop and promote NBA.com/China and offer 48 live webcasts of regular season games and 11 live webcasts of playoff games. Additionally, fans in China will have access to complete game replays of 28 select NBA contests, a series of NBA classic games, NBA Action - a half-hour weekly program featuring top NBA video highlights of the week, and other extensive video highlights on NBA.com/China.

Along with extensive NBA news, live stats and scores, NuSports will also feature a fan club on NBA.com/China and an exclusive NBA fantasy game in Chinese. All of the NBA broadband content and other features will be linked directly with the NuSports web site, www.nusports.cn.

Sohu
As the new official partner of NBA.com/China, Sohu will offer fans access to 24 live regular season webcasts for the first time along with nightly game recaps. As part of the expanded relationship, by providing links to and promotion of NBA.com/China Sohu will encourage fans to logon to NBA.com/China where fans can access latest NBA news and action. Sohu will also contribute editorial content to the site from their Chinese basketball experts.

NBA.com was the first professional sports league in the U.S. to offer language-specific international Web destinations for fans, including the launch of NBA.com/China in November 2002. During the season, NBA.com/China averages more than 128 million page views per month.

The NBA continues to gain popularity in China as 30 million viewers’ per week watch NBA programming via 24 television outlets including national TV station China Central Television (CCTV). NBA merchandise is sold in over 20,000 retail outlets throughout the country and the league has signed eight new marketing partners in China since 2005.

According to the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) which released it “18th China Internet Development Statistics” on July 19, 2006, through the end of June 2006, China has more than 123 million internet users, up 19.4 percent from the same period in 2005.

Overall, broadband usage in China continues to grow. The number of homes with broadband Internet services in the region is expected to rise to 176 million by 2010 from 61 million in 2005 (Strategy Analytics, April 2005).
