BEIJING, CHINA, January 3, 2007 – Sohu.com Inc. (NASDAQ: SOHU), China's
leading online media, search, and mobile value-added services company, announced
the launch of Sogou 3.0 on January 1st, a new product upgrade version for Sohu's
proprietary search engine, Sogou.
Since Sogou’s initial launch on August 2004, the Company has successfully
launched three upgraded versions, Sogou 2.0, 2.5 and now 3.0, which resulted in
improved search capabilities by expanding Sogou’s database capacity, increasing
the speed for updating and listing higher relevancy search results making Sogou
one of the best Chinese search engines.
Through increased server utilization and upgraded crawling, analyzing,
indexing, and anti-dead link functions, the newly upgraded Sogou is the first
search engine to reach a database of 10 billion retrieved Chinese language
pages.
Sogou 3.0’s advanced technology also significantly increases page crawling
speed. This improved capability allows a daily update of 500 million pages,
while also completing most of the crawling, analysis and indexing process of
important updated web pages as fast as within only one minute. As a result,
Sogou can offer Internet users the most updated news of the day via webpage
search.
In addition, Sogou 3.0 further improved analysis capability to minimize dead
links and repetitive information links, and rank the search results more
effectively, thus providing users with more relevant and accurate web pages.
Charles Zhang, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sohu.com, commented,
“With the rapid growth of the Internet in China, information today is increasing
at an explosive speed. Library size, updating speed and relevancy have become
key metrics in measuring the success of a search engine. With the launch of
Sogou 3.0, we are confident that we have vastly improved in all these areas. We
have continued to reinvest in research and development and believe that
commitment to our search product is making Sogou the search engine of choice for
Chinese users.”
Sogou 3.0 will continue to integrate the content strength of Sohu’s
comprehensive Internet platform and its community based product offerings, from
which the Company is able to gain knowledge of users’ online habits and
interests, thus maximizing the overall search experience for all Sohu users.
This is a unique advantage for Sohu to leverage its success as a premier
